First Profession 2008: On August 10th, Sister M Veronica of Saint Joseph and Sister M Lissetta of Saint Joseph came one step closer to dedicating their lives completely to Christ for all their lives. They professed their first vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience for three years, committing themselves to learn more deeply the about the grace of religious life.

After many weeks of preparation, Sister M Veronica (middle) and Sister M Lissetta (right) walk with their novice mistress, Sister M Anna Marie (left) on their way to their first profession mass.
As in the sacrament of matrimony, it is customary that the Sisters who are professing vows for the first time be escorted down the isle by a member, or members, of their family who will give them away for the service of the Church.

After professing her vows, Sister M Veronica places her candle on the altar.  The candle will remain on the altar throughout the remainder of Mass as a sign of her consecration.
Sister M Lissetta kneels before our provincial superior, Sister M Angela, and vows to live in poverty, chastity, and obedience according to the rule of our Holy Father Francis.

Sister M Veronica kneels before our chaplain, Father Francis Affelt.  Father will clothe her with the black veil that she will wear as a sign of her consecration.

Sister M Lissetta (left) and Sister M Veronica face the congregation after having professed their vows and received their black veils.
Sister M Lissetta smiles sweetly as she processes out of the St. Francis Convent Chapel as a vowed religious.

Sister M Veronica embraces Sister M Dolores Ann during the reception that followed the vows ceremony.
Sisters, friends, and family share in the wonderful buffet table of treats provided in honor of the two new professed Sisters.

The Sisters pose for a picture with their families.

We were honored to have many priests concelebrate.  Sister M Veronica poses with the vocation director from the diocese of Gary, Indiana, Father Kevin Hubert.  Sister M Veronica is a daughter of this northern Indiana diocese.
Sister M Lissetta poses with Father Timothy Alkire, pastor of St. Boniface Parish in Lafayette, Indiana.  Father was Sister Lissetta's spiritual director before she joined the community in 2005.  Father Alkire is dear to our hearts, as he was taught by our Sisters at St. Boniface School!
