A note from our vocation director:

Dear Friend in Christ,

The God who calls you is first of all the God who loves you. He loved you before you knew or understood love. As our foundress, Blessed Mother Maria Theresia, looked back on her vocation she knew it was all because of love: “I have been conquered by the force of his boundless love.” As you discover His loving plan, my prayer is that you come to know Him. He does not demand; He pursues and “looks at you with affection” (Toronto WYD July 25, 2002).

I remember hearing the words of St. John Paul II at the Toronto World Youth Day in 2002 and feeling my heart come alive. I was out in the rain with all the other pilgrims, not able to see much of anything. I had to strain to hear, but what I did hear arrested me. The God who loved me was also calling me. I was left, not with clear instructions, but an unmistakable desire to answer this call. I knew his words were true and that this feeling, this desire, welling up inside of me meant something. I wanted more. I wanted to do something great, to be a part of something great. I did not have to hide my desire, I could trust Jesus with my desire, because “nothing human is hurt by the Gospel” (Toronto WYD July 27, 2002). Jesus understood my desire and wanted nothing more than to see that desire come alive.

So many emotions arise when we embark on this journey. Questions arise in our hearts, thoughts race through our minds, confusion can trouble us, but one thing always remains – Jesus, in our boat calming our sea with His presence. Our vow formula begins, “Trusting in the grace the Lord has given me in baptism…” When we know someone loves us, we can trust them. “People are made for happiness. Rightly, then, you thirst for happiness. Christ is the answer to this desire of yours. But he asks you to trust him” (Toronto WYD July 25, 2002). Your life is a gift. Divine life, and carrying with it your vocation, whatever that may be, are also gifts. These gifts are filled with beauty, goodness, fullness, and yes happiness – all of which the Father does not want to hide from you or diminish in any way. The Father desires to reveal these gifts to you.

The words of St. John Paul II were an invitation for me to something more. That great desire for more was answered through loving Him, trusting Him, and receiving the gift of a vocation to religious life. What are the seeds of your vocation? When was your heart first awakened to something more?

Please know that you are in our prayers, especially during our hours of Eucharistic Adoration.

May the Lord give you His peace.

In Christ,
Sister Ignatia
